One of the founding principles of NewsCred is this fundamental belief that great things happen to people and to companies because of determination, perseverance and grit. On top of that, I believe that everything great in life is worth fighting for.
Asif, Iraj and I are thrilled to announce our $15M financing from the incredible folks at Mayfield, Greycroft, FirstMark and IA Ventures. Normally, we don’t believe financings are a cause for celebration because they typically mark the starting line and not the finish. But this one was special – the commitment shown to us by our investors is a direct result of four years of hard work and toil by our 80 passionate, resilient and brilliant colleagues in New York, London and Dhaka.
Ours was a path that was certainly non-linear. We waited patiently as we listened to the market and iterated our product many times, and ultimately were rewarded by the emergence of an entirely new multibillion dollar category (content marketing) that we now lead. Throughout it all, our guiding principal has been to focus on our two core assets. The first is our relationships with over 2,500 amazing content partners, who have entrusted us with their most precious assets: their incredible journalism. And the second is the market leading search, NLP and semantic technology that we wrap around that first asset. Built by a world-class engineering team, our technology allows us to surface the world’s best journalism to our customers where, when and how they want it.
Over the next year, we’re planning to continue to invest in building out our products and team, as well as grow internationally. In fact, this quarter, we’re planning to expand our Publisher Network to include foreign language content.
We have a huge market opportunity in front of us. We will execute with speed and discipline, run faster than the fastest competitor, and reward and celebrate the incredible people who help us achieve our goals. But through it all, we remain steadfastly committed to helping the news industry not just survive, but to thrive. And that is certainly worth fighting for.
